My name is Simon Pollard, I am 42 years old, an entrepreneur from Leeds, I’ve spent the last 23 years building a number of highly successful businesses. I live and breathe business strategy and have a true passion for making sure my customers are valued which is the core ethos and one that sits at the very heart of my business principles. I am passionate and extremely tenacious in my mission to achieve and secure success as I continue to build and develop leading brands. I work across a number of diverse industries as the founder and CEO of several very exciting companies.
In 2015, I was chosen as one of the Yorkshire’s stand out business leaders by the top business journals, the Insider. The Insider’s “42 Under 42” programme recognises Yorkshire’s most dynamic and inspirational young entrepreneurs and celebrates their success in helping grow the regional economy. According to the Insider it’s a “showcase of the region’s brightest business talent, the next generation of leaders” the “ones-to-watch” are listed in the annual “42 Under 42” list.
I feel privileged to have been able to create a number of successful businesses across so many diverse industries each of which are fast moving, dynamic and ever changing, yet challenging. Having fun in each of the sectors has allowed me to propel other business interests at the same time as running the day to day operations. The future continues to be exciting across my portfolio as we go from strength to strength, 42 The Calls is my latest acquisition for which I am very excited about developing.
I started my career in healthcare management, before selling the business to Ramsey Healthcare, I took some time out to start a family for 7 years thereafter, it was at this time my husband and I set up 22 Street Lane Nursery back in 2016.
22 Street Lane Nursery was a vision that I shared with my husband, Simon, having had 3 children we knew we had an opportunity to create something really special and in 2016 22 Street Lane Nursery was born.
To this end, we have prepared a loving and stimulating environment that is engaging and responsive to every child at each stage of their development. Our aim is to provide the best possible outcomes for all of our children by providing care, exceptional nutrition and learning and play of the highest standards, therefore preparing children for their later stages of education. The Nursery is full with a waiting list until 2021 with further plans for growth.
In 2018 my husband and I have taken advantage of an opportunity to repeat the process whilst acquiring 42 The Calls Hotel with a view to replicating the same principles. Our aim is to transform and redevelop 42 The Calls into breath-taking accommodation that will take the hotel back to its roots of being in the Premier League. Embracing the 18th century converted corn mill’s unique setting, provenance and potential, the team will promote 42 The Calls Hotel into a luxury experience for the people of Leeds to enjoy. We look forward to working closely with our customers both past and present in developing a 5* experience.
I have been at 42 The Calls since the initial opening in April 1991 and take great pride in working at such a unique and individual property that offers a very personalised and high standard of service to all of our guests and leading such a loyal and dedicated team who genuinely care about the guest experience.
My background and passion has always been in Hospitality, I completed a 3 year Hospitality Management Course at Thomas Danby College and before joining 42 worked at other hotels in London and Leeds.
We have always strived to offer the very best service and I now look forward to “New Beginnings” at the hotel and am very excited about what the future holds and putting 42 back where it deserves to be back at the top of the Leeds market.
My time outside the hotel is taken up with family life as I have two teenage daughters, socialising with friends, eating out and going on long walks with my Sproodle.
17 years ago I joined the team at 42 The Calls as a receptionist, not working here long, I soon realised my passion for the hotel and the hospitality industry. Over the years I have progressed through the ranks to become the Operations Manager and I have always been focused to offering exceptional value and service to our guests. With the team, I enjoy taking personal care of our guests at every stage of their experience, from reserving a bedroom, conference room or private dining, to ‘see you again soon’. My other passion are my two children, who since they arrived, two years ago and 11 weeks ago, have made me even more determined to be better in everything I do. When not spending time with my children, I love to sample the varied food offerings that Leeds has with my husband and friends.
I have had the pleasure of working at 42 The Calls Hotel since 1995. Having worked in Housekeeping and Reception, I do believe been part of the Front Office team is where my strength lies. Although, I do enjoy the admin side of the job and assisting the Operations Manager, I take great pleasure in meeting and greeting our guests on a daily basis and providing great customer service. My spare time is usually taken up with Rugby as I am a mum to two teenage boys, running and generally trying to keep fit and healthy is something I love to do.
I am currently Head Housekeeper and one of the Duty Managers at the hotel and having worked at the hotel for 14 years, I now class it as my second home. I am hardworking and dedicated to my job and strive to do the best of my ability.
I have a good rapport with the regular guests and know there needs and musts and welcome the new guests with the same courtesy
When away from the hotel my hobby is “Storage Wars” just like on TV where you certainly meet some very interesting and varied characters.
Ten years ago, me and my family moved from Lithuania to Leeds and since that time I have been working at 42 the Calls Hotel.
Initially I started working as a Night Porter and over the years have also worked within the F&B department, however, I have now had the opportunity to work as a Duty Manager.
This is a responsible and interesting role and I am enjoying the variation of this position and especially ensuring that all the guests are made to feel very welcome when they arrive at the hotel and have an enjoyable experience so that when they check out they are already looking forward to their next visit.
One of the main values in life is my family, I have three young children and a beautiful wife who love our new life in England, which is why I probably why 42 the Calls is so close to me, We are one team, one family that cares about our guests and about each other.
Hi My name is Vaughan Dickinson. I have had the pleasure of working at 42 The Calls since April 2004. 14 years and enjoyed every minute of it. My hobbies are swimming and DIY. Which is a good thing, as over the years my building and DIY have come in handy in the hotel. I love working here as we all do. I am sure this can be felt by the guests that stay with us, because many say it looks like a family run business because we all care so much about their experience with us. I hope I have many more years here with Simon on board.
I have worked at 42 The Calls hotel now for 11 years and I have to say it is a pleasure coming to work where the Management and Staff all get on very well together. I am 71 years old and now work part time but if a problem arises at the hotel when I am not there I am happy to come out and cure the problem so that our guests are not inconvenienced.
My hobbies include golf and football and looking after my Grandaughter Ruby, who is the light of my life.
42 The Calls is in my blood and I look forward to the future under the new ownership.
I started working at 42 The Calls 6 years ago within the F&B department and for almost all of this time, having never worked as a Chef before I found my passion for cooking and baking and gained experience in the kitchen. My speciality is the creation of Afternoon Teas which I love to do and enjoy seeing happy guests when they are greeted with the abundance of sweet treats I have created. I am extremely passionate about delivering a high quality homemade dining experience for our guests from Breakfast, which offers a choice of ten different sausages to Private Dining for up to 30 guests.
Since I came to United Kingdom from Czech, I have worked in different hotels in Leeds but since joining the team at 42 The Calls Hotel, I found my new family here and we all like to deliver to our guests a high quality of service.
I am looking forward to continuing to share my passion of food and cooking using locally sourced high quality ingredients and taking the guest dining experience at the hotel to a new level
